Variation, Selection, Development: Probing the Evolutionary Model of Language Change (Trends in Linguistics. Studies and Monographs)Variation, Selection, Development: Probing the Evolutionary Model of Language Change (Trends in Linguistics. Studies and Monographs)

Can language change be modelled as an evolutionary process? Can notions like variation, selection and competition be fruitfully applied to facts of language development? The present volume ties together various strands of linguistic research which can bring us towards an answer to these questions. The William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition 1985-2000: Problems, Solutions, and CommentaryThe William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition 1985-2000: Problems, Solutions, and Commentary

The William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition is the premier undergraduate mathematical competition in North America. This volume contains problems from the years 1985-2000, with solutions and extensive commentary. It is unlike the first two Putnam volumes and unlike virtually every other problem-based book, in that it places the problems in the context of important mathematical themes. The authors highlight connections to other problems, to the curriculum, and to more advanced topics.

Sabaki MethodSabaki Method

Sabaki means staying open to the world at large and responding to others in a way that blends energies in new directions. Whether it is a question of repelling an attack or building relationships, the combined energy that comes from sabaki is an effort of cooperation, openness, and respect. Whether you are training for health, competition, or self-defense, The Sabaki Method can show you how to turn defense into offense, anticipate attacks, condition the body, and focus the mind. Kancho Ninomiya takes the mystery out of karate.
