Two men are on their way to market when one man's donkey knocks over the other man's jar of precious oil. Confused and upset, neither man knows who to blame for the mishap. They decide to ask their wise and just king for help. He suggests holding a trial between the donkey and the rock, and invites all his subjects to the courthouse to witness the strange event. But instead of watching a trial, the audience itself gets a lesson from the king. From the striking mountain range to the brilliant colors of the prayer flags and the monks in red and gold, The Donkey and the Rock gives young readers a taste of the beautiful country of Tibet, and shares the wisdom of a tale that emerged from it.

The Truro Bear and Other Adventures - Poems and Essays
From a poet who teaches us the beauty and magic of the natural world comes a reminder that this world includes “the creatures, with their / thick fur, their shy and wordless gaze. Their / infallible sense of what their lives / are meant to be.”
As they play video games inside, children miss out on a world of activity just outside their window. Three children decide to stay in and play video games. They close their shutters, saying "It's so boring outside. Nothing ever happens," and miss seeing a mole pop up through the dirt, a rabbit being chased by a dog and hunter, an altercation between a cat and dog, etc. While these events aren't enough in themselves to convince readers to go play outside, the lesson is worthwhile and may get through to some. The pen-and-ink illustrations are detailed and carefully drawn.

This town knows Christmas. But this year nothing goes according to plan. Shepherd's Inn is full of strangers, Mad Myrtle is causing problems, and a young couple with a baby due any minute rolls in to the middle of town in their Partridge Family-style bus. It's hardly the holiday Christmas Valley wanted--but it may be just what they need. This charming novella is sure to become a new Christmas tradition for readers who love a great holiday story.
