Tar Baby
Ravishingly beautiful and emotionally incendiary, Tar Baby is Toni Morrison’s reinvention of the love story. Jadine Childs is a black fashion model with a white patron, a white boyfriend, and a coat made out of ninety perfect sealskins. Son is a black fugitive who embodies everything she loathes and desires. As Morrison follows their affair, which plays out from the Caribbean to Manhattan and the deep South, she charts all the nuances of obligation and betrayal between blacks and whites, masters and servants, and men and women.

Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child - The Cabinet of Curiosities
FBI agent Pendergast, journalist Bill Smithback, and archaeologist Nora Kelly join forces to stop a vicious murderer when the discovery of an underground charnel house in downtown Manhattan reveals information about a serial killer who stalked the neighborhood in the 1880s.
Danielle Steel sweeps us from the gritty chaos of Manhattan's criminal court system to the the cool gentility of the Deep South in her powerful novel - at once a chilling story of crime and punishment and a behind-closed-doors look into the heart of a family. Steel nimbly creates two complete and vivid worlds as a mother and daughter begin separate lives - one in corporate Manhattan, fighting to put a serial killer behind bars; the other in sultry Charleston, reconnecting with the father she's barely known.

Entombed
Series heroine Alexandra Cooper, head of Manhattan's sex crimes unit, returns in a novel that might have been titled "Nevermore,": focused as it is on the life and works of Edgar Allan Poe. When the body of a two-decades-old skeleton is found bricked up behind a wall in a soon-to-be-demolished building where Poe once lived, it looks like a very cold case indeed. But then that old murder is linked to a more current slaying, one that at first looks like the work of the Silk Stocking Rapist, Alex's old enemy, who terrorized the upper East Side of Manhattan several years ago but hasn't been heard from since.
