Howard Zinn - A People's History of the United StatesHoward Zinn - A People's History of the United States

This great book should really be read by everyone. It is difficult to describe why it so great because it both teaches and inspires. You really just have to read it. We think it is so good that it demands to be as accessible as possible. Once you've finished it, we're sure you'll agree. In fact, years ago, we would offer people twenty dollars if they read the book and didn't think it was completely worth their time. Of all the people who took us up on it, no one collected.

On My Island

The narrator of this story thinks that there’s nothing to do on his little round island, which he shares with a wolf, two cats, three ants, and a bat. But all around him, fantastic events are taking place — it’s just that the boy and his friends are always looking in the wrong direction. Marie-Louise Gay’s signature style brings delight and whimsy to every page. “A masterpiece.... Gay’s [picture books] are completely invigorating and accessible to their young audience, providing a rich literary experience that nourishes both intellect and emotion.” — Toronto Star

Inspired by one of the world’s greatest novels, Ohio artist Matt Kish set out on an epic voyage of his own one day in August 2009. More than one hundred and fifty years following the original publication of Moby-Dick, Kish began illustrating Herman Melville’s classic, creating an image a day over the next eighteen months based on text selected from every page of the 552-page Signet Classics paperback edition. Completely self-taught, Kish refused to set any boundaries for the artwork and employed a deliberately low-tech approach in response to the increasing popularity of born-digital art and literature.

Heaven

Dill the dog knows his time is up so he packs his case and tells Lily, his owner, that he’s off "up there."

"Can I come too?" asks Lily.

"Er . . . not yet," replies Dill.

While he is waiting for the angels to collect him, Dill explains to Lily what he thinks heaven is like—hundreds of lampposts to pee against, lots of whiffy things to smell and bones everywhere—with meat on them! But Lily completely disagrees; she thinks heaven is quite different. Luckily, they agree to disagree just in time for a fond, and very poignant, last goodbye.
