Commonplace Books and Reading in Georgian EnglandCommonplace Books and Reading in Georgian England

This pioneering exploration of Georgian men and women's experiences as readers explores their use of commonplace books for recording favourite passages and reflecting upon what they had read, revealing forgotten aspects of their complicated relationship with the printed word. It shows how indebted English readers often remained to techniques for handling, absorbing and thinking about texts that were rooted in classical antiquity, in Renaissance humanism and in a substantially oral culture.

Noncommutative Functional Calculus: Theory and Applications of Slice Hyperholomorphic Functions (2011)Noncommutative Functional Calculus: Theory and Applications of Slice Hyperholomorphic Functions (2011)

This book presents a functional calculus for n-tuples of not necessarily commuting linear operators. In particular, a functional calculus for quaternionic linear operators is developed. These calculi are based on a new theory of hyperholomorphicity for functions with values in a Clifford algebra: the so-called slice monogenic functions which are carefully described in the book. In the case of functions with values in the algebra of quaternions these functions are named slice regular functions.

Essentials of Anatomic Pathology Third EditionEssentials of Anatomic Pathology Third Edition

In the 8 years since the publication of the first edition of Essentials of Anatomic Pathology, great strides have been made in our understanding of diseases and neoplastic processes. Many clinically important new histopathologic entities have been described or more fully defined in virtually every organ. Numerous clinically important diagnostic and prognostic markers have entered routine practice. Genetic testing for the early detection of cancers and the molecular classification of diseases has become increasingly important. This is an age of enlightenment in surgical pathology, and the authors of this new volume have captured this sense of excitement herein.
