Let's Play SchoolLet's Play School - The Rocking Horse Players and Orchestra
This album is supposedly by the Rocking Horse Players and Orchestra, but it's really one of those albums that you know they patched together from other albums from other times (possibly even other decades). That lady sure hit the high notes on the Star-Spangled Banner though. If I played that as a kid it probably would have made my dog's ears explode!
According to the back cover "The Rocking Horse Players and Orchestra have written and produced hundreds of happy records for young folks to provide them with hours and hours of 'fun-a-plenty'". Hope you have "fun-a-plenty" with this one!

Let's SubtractLet's Subtract - Mary Hurt and the Sing and Learn Chorus
To the boys and girls who will use this record:
Arithmetic is one of the most important subjects you will ever study. Wherever you may live, whatever you may do, you can be sure that arithmetic has something to do with it. When we learn our addition, subtraction, multiplication and division tables, we are preparing ourselves for not only our studies in higher grades, but for a busy, grown-up life. I have been teaching boys and girls like yourself by the very same method on this record, and this is the way we do it: First we go over our tables completely. Then we listen carefully to them once more, and finally test ourselves. In this manner, we have been able to learn our tables very quickly. I hope you will enjoy studying your tables in this new way. Practice faithfully every day, and you will see how soon it will be before you know them all.
Learning is fun!

Ancient Origins of the Olympic Games

Ancient Origins of the Olympic GamesFrom August 8 to August 24, more than 10,000 athletes from 205 nations will convene in Beijing, China, to take part in the XXIX Olympiad. Athletes will compete in a variety of sports ranging from archery, basketball, and diving to rowing, soccer, and weightlifting.
Although the modern version of the Olympic Games has been around for over 100 years since its revival at the 1896 games in Athens, the Olympics have a rich and exciting history that goes back to ancient Greece. A crucial aspect of Greek culture, the ancient Olympics emphasized the ideas of heroism and honor established by Homer's epic poetry. The games were meant to celebrate physical strength, speed, and manhood. Most importantly, they embodied the spirit of competition (agon) that defined ancient Greek life.
