Let's Subtract - Mary Hurt and the Sing and Learn Chorus

To the boys and girls who will use this record:
Arithmetic is one of the most important subjects you will ever study. Wherever you may live, whatever you may do, you can be sure that arithmetic has something to do with it. When we learn our addition, subtraction, multiplication and division tables, we are preparing ourselves for not only our studies in higher grades, but for a busy, grown-up life. I have been teaching boys and girls like yourself by the very same method on this record, and this is the way we do it: First we go over our tables completely. Then we listen carefully to them once more, and finally test ourselves. In this manner, we have been able to learn our tables very quickly. I hope you will enjoy studying your tables in this new way. Practice faithfully every day, and you will see how soon it will be before you know them all.
Learning is fun!

To Parents and Teachers:
Admittedly, one of the most trying tasks in the education of the grade school child is the teaching of the basic arithmetic tables. Formerly, the information was absorbed—and not always fully, through sheer dint of laborious repetition of seemingly endless, dry tables. In today's world of over-crowded schools and many tempting diversions of highly mechanized living, parents and teachers alike have sought a palatable method of conveying this essential knowledge, yet in a way that learning would lie permanent. Mrs. Rebecca Warden, herself a grade-school teacher, has been using her now-famous system in her own classes for 16 years—not only for arithmetic, but other subjects as well. She received international attention when a syndicated article on her achievement was released by the United Press. The reaction was instantaneous and enthusiastic, for music, to which children respond so readily, is the foundation of her method. Using this method, the average child will be attracted to the jingle-like construction and catchy melodies, the gifted child will be enabled to progress at his own speed, and the retarded child will be aided immeasurably the memonic devices employed.
Teaching Systems, Inc., exclusive distributor of Mrs. Warden's system, is proud to be part of this important advance in teaching methods, marked by the release of the four volumes of the Basic Arithmetic Tables.
