This handbook compiled in full accord with the requirements of the existing syllabus and curriculum of social studies of Great Britain for pedagogical universities and faculties of foreign languages is intended to provide the students with the most updated information and analysis of the versatile aspects of the contemporary British social scene which experienced major changes of the beginning of the 21^st century.  The handbook consists of six chapters which highlight the establishment of parliamentary democracy in the country, the structure of the present-day population, the ongoing changes of the state and political system, the role  and contribution of the major political parties to the present political and social scene and the far reaching changes of the educational system.
