Beneath the Surface is the second in a three-book series designed to improve pre-intermediate students’ reading skills in English. The texts are from a variety of authentic sources.
The book consists of sixteen units. Each unit contains pre-reading activities, comprehension exercises, discussion points, vocabulary work, grammar practice and a related writing task. Though students will meet quite complex language, the tasks they are asked to do are at their level of ability.
A removable Answer Key is provided for the teacher and for students using the book on their own.
It should take one-class period (45-60 minutes) to do the basic cycle of work in class. The writing task may be assigned as homework. The vocabulary and grammar sections (indicated by a tint box in the margin) are outside the core lesson, and can be used as additional activities or homework.
