It is published monthly by the Nature Publishing Group, a division of Macmillan Publishers Ltd. Like other Nature journals, there is no external Editorial Board; editorial decisions are made by an in-house team, although peer review by external expert referees forms a part of the review process.
Nature Biotechnology's 2008 impact factor was 22.297, making it the highest cited original research journal in the category of Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology. In comparison, the impact factor of general science journal Nature for the same period was 31.434.
