The Prisoner (2009)

In preparation for his upcoming feature film - a violent prison drama - Playto sets out to find the perfect surroundings in which to tell his brutal tale. Upon discovering a dilapidated prison that was once a notorious house of pain, it appears that Playto has found just such a location. Number Six wakes up in the desert. He sees an old man being shot at and chased. He helps the old man, drags him into a cave. The old man whispers a number to him, says "go to 554" then dies. No. 6 buries him in the sand. He wanders into the Village, he hails a taxi, he asks questions, he jumps out of the taxi. He goes to look for the person belonging to the number the old man told him. It belongs to a waitress who works in a diner across the street from her apartment. No. 6 asks her about the old man but she doesn't want to be involved. The dogs are barking. She tells him to escape out the back door. No. 6 runs upstairs, picks up a pipe, smashes a window, jumps out, sees Number Two outside the diner, No. 6 falls off the roof. He wakes up in a hospital. They tell him he is free to go. Shortly they bring him to see No. 2. No. 2 tells him that he should check his badge, that he is No. 6.

 

Episode 1-2 "Arrival", "Harmony"

6 wakes up in the desert, where he sees an old man, number 93, being shot at and chased. Wounded, 93 is dragged into a cave by 6, where he tells him to "go to 554" before dying. 6 buries 93 in a shallow grave, and wanders into the Village, where he meets 2 and finds himself grilled over the location of the old man he encountered. Ultimately he finds a confidant in 554, who is killed on orders of 2 as he formally introduces 6 to his new permanent home. As 6 struggles to find allies to escape from the Village, 2 introduces 6 to 6's brother's family in the Village in an attempt to convince him of his belonging. 6 is confused; he had a brother in the real world before the Village, but the brother died in childhood in a drowning accident. As 6 begins to doubt himself, his brother admits to the facade and the pair make a failed attempt at escape from The Village. Though his brother dies in the attempt (by drowning, following an encounter with Rover), 6 renews his faith in himself.

 

Episode 3 "Anvil"
2 offers 6 the opportunity to become an undercover agent, spying on suspected dreamers within The Village. Both parties openly opposed to each other, 6 accepts, in what is a complex gambit of keeping your enemies closer. However, the situation quickly becomes a tangled Spy vs. Spy as 909, the man 6 is working with, is spying on 6, and 6 strives to use his position to learn more about the dreamers in the Village.



Episode 4 "Darling"
The Village Matchmaking Service targets 6, pairing him with a woman, number 415. 6 recalls 415 from a brief encounter his New York alter ego, Michael, had with her shortly before he was taken to the Village. 415, however, does not remember 6. 415 and 6 become lovers, and ultimately plan to marry, until 313 intervenes. 415 reveals to 6 that she is indeed Lucy, the woman Michael knew in New York; 2 has brought her to the Village to "break his heart," and break 6 in the process. 415 dies by falling into a bottomless hole that has appeared in the Village; in a concurrent flashback to New York, Lucy is killed by an explosion in Michael's apartment.



Episode 5 "Schizoid"
2 has embodied 6's animal desires in an identical double named 'Two Times Six'. 6 must find a way to reconcile himself with his desires, or risk being manipulated by 2 through them. Meanwhile, 1112 confronts his mother, 313 sees more visions of her past, and 2 relaxes for a day as 'UnTwo.' In New York, Michael returns to Summakor to find answers. 1112's mother reveals that when she awakes, bottomless holes (or voids) appear in the Village.



Episode 6 "Checkmate"
2 has afflicted 6 with a disease that will kill him, believing the threat of death will break him. 6 confronts 1112 twice. 1112, unable to reconcile himself with his existence as a lie, proceeds to smother his dreaming mother, and hang himself. In New York, Michael is escorted to a car so he may meet "Mr. Curtis." In The Village, 6 becomes the new 2, while 313 becomes the dreamer who keeps the Village in existence, freeing Curtis' wife from being the dreamer and allowing her to return fully to the real world.
