The Art of Harvey Kurtzman: The Mad Genius of ComicsThe Art of Harvey Kurtzman: The Mad Genius of Comics

Harvey Kurtzman discovered Robert Crumb and gave Gloria Steinem her first job in publishing when he hired her as his assistant. Terry Gilliam also started at his side, met an unknown John Cleese in the process, and the genesis of Monty Python was formed. Art Spiegelman has stated on record that he owes his career to him. And he's one of Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner's favorite artists.

Indian LegendsIndian Legends

This little book is for children. The legends have been selected from various tribes.
THE history of the American Indians, as we know it, begins with the history of the first Spanish, French, and English settlements in the new continent. All that we know of the race before that time is gleaned from the traditions of the Indians themselves. These traditions do not give us the actual dates and facts, which it is one function of history to record, but they do give us an idea of the fundamental racial thought, the instinctive belief, the habits, and the religion of the Indian people, and this is an equally important part of history.

A Personal Record

A Personal RecordA Personal Record

As a general rule we do not want much encouragement to talk about ourselves; yet this little book is the result of a friendly suggestion, and even of a little friendly pressure.
A Personal Record is an autobiographical work (or "fragment of biography") by Joseph Conrad, published in 1912.
It has also been published under the titles A Personal Record: Some Reminiscences and Some Reminiscences.
Notoriously unreliable and digressive in structure, it is nonetheless the principal contemporary source for information about the author's life. It tells about his schooling in Russian Poland, his sailing in Marseille, the influence of his Uncle Tadeusz, and the writing of Almayer's Folly.
