How to you extort $600,000 from a dying man? Someone had done it very quietly and skilfully to the husband of Travis McGee's ex-girlfriend. McGee flies to Chicago to help untangle the mess and discovers that although Dr. Fortner Geis had led an exemplary life, there were those who'd take advantage of one "indiscretion" and bring down the whole family. McGee also discovers he likes a few members of the family far too much to let that happen....

Bright Orange for the ShroudBright Orange for the Shroud

Bright Orange for the Shroud (1965) is a sixth novel in the Travis McGee series by John D. MacDonald. The plot follows McGee as he attempts to salvage the money of friend Arthur Wilkinson after the man is defrauded in a semi-legal confidence scheme involving a land deal. The title comes from a scene in the book where one of the characters, Vivian Crane, commits suicide wearing a bright orange outfit. McGee comments that this color is not appropriate for death because it is so life-like.

The Deep Blue Good-ByThe Deep Blue Good-By

The Deep Blue Good-by is the first of 21 novels in the Travis McGee series by American author John D. MacDonald.
Travis McGee is one of the great characters in crime fiction, and John D. MacDonald a fascinating storyteller. You never know what either is going to do next, or say next; what is going on in their minds is as important, if not more so, then what is going on outside Travis's boat. All of which add up to a heckuva fun series.
