The Misadventures by Sherlock HolmesThe Misadventures by Sherlock Holmes

Someone has said that more has been written about Sherlock Holmes than about any other character in fiction. It is further true that more has been written about Holmes by others than by Doyle himself. Vincent Starrett once conjectured that "innumerable parodies of THE ADVENTURES have appeared in innumerable journals." There aren't that many, of course; but a half dozen or more full-length volumes have been devoted to Holmes's career and personality, literally hundreds of essays and magazine articles, a few-score radio dramas, some memorable plays, many moving-picture scripts — and to put it more accurately, numerous parodies and pastiches.

Shadows in the TwilightShadows in the Twilight

One of the world's best-selling authors has written a moving story about a teenager's life in Northern Sweden.
Joel will soon be twelve, and he thinks nothing's going on in the small community where he lives. But he's wrong there. One day, a Miracle happens to him. He's very nearly run over by a bus, but is miraculously unhurt. Now, what do you do when a Miracle has come your way? Shouldn't you show gratitude somehow? Surely a good deed of some sort is in order. But how?
A humorous, wise, and understanding portrait of a boy about to leave childhood behind him, this is an independent sequel to the award-winning and much-praised A Bridge to the Stars.

Once we know the facts about food in America, we can change things by the choices we make as consumers, as voters, and as ethical human beings.

Connected Words: Word associations and second language vocabulary acquisitionWhat words come into your head when you think of SUN? For native English speakers, the most common responses are MOON, SHINE and HOT, and about half of all native speaker responses to SUN are covered by these three words. L2 English speakers are much less obliging, and produce patterns of association that are markedly different from those produced by native speakers. Why? What does this tell us about the way L2 speakers' vocabularies grow and develop? This volume provides a user-friendly introduction to a research technique which has the potential to answer some long-standing puzzles about L2 vocabulary.
