Disney Educational - Bill Nye The Science Guy: Phases of Matter

The three phases of matter get the Bill Nye treatment in this program. As usual, although some of the science concepts explored in the programs can be complex, Nye is in tune with what students are capable of understanding and uses humor to create a fun learning atmosphere. In this episode, he discusses the finer points of solids, liquids, and gases, using examples that kids can relate to. The idea of frying an ice cube is presented to help illustrate what matter is all about.

Disney Educational - Bill Nye The Science Guy: Patterns

Patterns occur in many areas of nature, including music, waves, honeycombs, and plants. In Bill Nye the Science Guy: Patterns, the Science Guy looks at how patterns help humans to organize the data that bombards them on a daily basis. He also explains how math evolved to help make sense of these patterns. As usual, students need not fear that such a complicated subject will be tedious; just when things begin to look seriously straight, Nye cracks another joke or brings on a music video parody, both trademarks of his show.

Disney Educational - Bill Nye The Science Guy: Outer Space

Humor and quirkiness are Bill Nye's tools as he teaches the young and old about the solar system. In this episode, Bill Nye the Science Guy: Outer Space, Nye uses simple experiments and wacky visuals to make the planets become instantly fathomable to kids. Nye speaks eloquently about gravity and the reasons behind the difference in planet colors. As in all Bill Nye the Science Guy episodes, his manner and enthusiasm are endearing, but he sticks to the facts, making science both fun and informative.

Disney Educational - Bill Nye The Science Guy: Ocean Life

In Bill Nye the Science Guy: Ocean Life, the Science Guy takes a look at the small organisms of the sea, including plankton, kelp, and coral. Although many of these life forms are too small to be seen with the naked eye, their importance to larger organisms is enormous. Bill Nye goes down to the depths to investigate phytoplankton and zooplankton and their place in the ocean food chain. His special guest is marine biologist Karen Montano, who visits tide pools with a group of youngsters for a look at the "nurseries of the sea."
