Elmore Leonard - Tishomingo Blues
"Dennis
Lenahan the high diver would tell people that if you put a fifty-cent
piece on the floor and looked down at it, that's what the tank looked
like from the top of that eighty-foot steel ladder."
Things
are going along okay with Dennis' gig at the Tishomingo Lodge &
Casino in Tunica, Mississippi, "the Casino Capital of the South," until
the day he looks down from the high-dive platform and witnesses a mob
hit -- Dixie style.

Beowulf
" 'Tis better to die than to live in shame." The oldest existing story written in Old English, "Beowulf" is the classic tale of courage and honor. In the Great Hall of Hrothgar, King of the Danes, the warrior Beowulf, son of a Swedish King, wages battle with the monster Grendel. The introduction contains a short history of the English language and a description of Anglo-Saxon culture.
