Begging for Trouble

Rob Chesney might have fooled Ellie Engleman into thinking he is a woman, but no one, not even Ellie's boyfriend, NYPD homicide detective Sam Ryder, can convince Ellie that Rob is a killer. Still, the evidence against Rob is quite damning. Not only did the police find him standing over the body of fellow drag queen Carmella Sunday, but the rumor backstage is that Carmella was gunning for Rob's spot in the show. The only witness to the murder is Rob's dog Bitsy, but the poor thing is so traumatized Ellie can't get a word out of her. As a professional dog walker, Ellie's ability to 'talk' to her four-legged clients helps her immensely, but without any information from Bitsy, Ellie and her dog, Rudy, will just have to sniff out the real killer by themselves. McCoy is as adept at creating colorful, compelling characters, two-legged and four-legged, and writing sharply humorous prose as she is at crafting a cleverly constructed plot.
