Focused on the social history of the United States, this textbook covers relationships, interprets evidence, connects the present to the past, and helps students do all those things.

About the author
Gary B. Nash is Professor of History at the University of California at Los Angeles and Director of the National Center for History in the Schools. He is author of "Red, White, and Black: The Peoples of Early North America" and "Forging Freedom: The Formation of Philadelphia’s Black Community, 1720–1840", among other publications. Nash served as president of the Organization of American Historians in 1994–1995 and is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the American Philosophical Society.
