Since the autumn of 1888, when he terrorised London, Jack the Ripper has become famous all over the world. How did he escape justice? And who was he? There have been hundreds of suspects and theories but nobody has yet discovered his identity.
Jack the Ripper takes you back to the dark streets of Victorian London, to investigate the crimes, examine the theories, and meet the people who played their part in the drama.
'Soon I felt something alive moving along my leg and up my body to my face, and when I looked down, I saw a very small human being, only fifteen centimetres tall . . . I was so surprised that I gave a great shout.' But that is only the first of many surprises which Gulliver has on his travels. He visits a land of giants and a flying island, meets ghosts from the past and horses which talk . . .
One more audiobook (and book) of Miles Vorkosigan's adventures. In this novell Miles infiltrates a prison camp at Dagoola IV, where he plots from within to free the prisoners. This is, in many ways, the archetype of a Miles story. He starts in a down and out situation (this one being a prison camp, far worse than most) and gets people to rally around him through the sheer force of personality, hope, and imagination. That, plus a fair bit of luck and good connections, lets him turn the situation on its head and make everything work out. The story ended up working far better than it was expected after the brutal beginning and shows a lot about Miles's loyalty to the people under his command.
