The workbooks are intended to be used in conjunction with classroom lectures or for independent study.
What is a verb? It's easier to show than explain! In this fun and animated introduction to grammer, rhyming verse is used to creatively clarify the concept of verbs. Chock-full of colorful, lively examples, the playful rhymes and illustrations of comical cartoon cats combine to hightlight key words in the sentences. Verbs like toss and tumble, jump and jam, jog and juggle, jig and leap are printed in color for easy identification.
This basic, self-study book will help you develop a direct, clear, and concise writing style. It presents a step-by-step approach for writing effective sentences, paragraphs, and other informational formats. Self-editing techniques for avoiding common writing problems are carefully explained.
"A very practical manual that teaches you the basics of sentence structure, and beyond. Recommended for those who need to build a solid foundation on how sentences are structured." -a user comment.
This book is concerned with the meaning and use of two kinds of declarative sentences:
1) It's raining? 2) It's raining.
The difference between (1) and (2) is intonational: (1) has a final rise--indicated by the question mark--while (2) ends with a fall.
Christine Gunlogson's central claim is that the meaning and use of both kinds of sentences must be understood in terms of the meaning of their defining formal elements, namely declarative sentence type and rising versus falling intonation.
