Legends 1 - Anthology
Acclaimed writer and editor Robert Silverberg gathered eleven of the finest writers in Fantasy to contribute to this collection of short novels. Each of the writers was asked to write a new story based on one of his or her most famous series: from Stephen King's opening piece set in his popularGunslinger universe to Robert Jordan's early look at his famed Wheel of Time saga, these stories are exceptionally well written and universally well told. The authors include King, Jordan, and Silverberg himself, as well as Terry and Lyn Pratchett, Terry Goodkind, Orson Scott Card, Ursula K. Le Guin, Tad Williams, George R.R. Martin, Anne McCaffrey, and Raymond E. Feist.
Father Terry Dunn thought he'd seen everything on the mean streets of Detroit, but that was before he went on a little retreat to Rwanda to evade a tax-fraud indictment. Now the whiskey-drinking, Nine Inch Nails T-shirt-wearing padre is back trying to hustle up a score to help the little orphans of Rwanda. But the fund-raising gets complicated when a former tattletale cohort pops up on Terry's tail.
Fourteen-year-old Cynthia Archer woke up one morning to discover her entire family had disappeared. No note. No clues. Nothing and no one to tell her where they went, what happened to them, whether they are alive or dead. Twenty-five years later, Cynthia and Terry Archer still live in Milford, Connecticut, not far from the house from which her family vanished.
Terry Goodkind - Soul of the Fire (Book 5) (Sword of Truth)
Here is the fifth book of the series:
An act of desperation sets loose the three Chimes, otherworldly creatures with the power to destroy magic. While Richard Rahl, the Seeker of Truth, and his wife, Kahlan, the Mother Confessor, search for a way to recall the Chimes, the emperor Jagang continues his savage war against the lands of D'Hara.
'Your unquestioning obedience. You will be my man.' Such is Manfred's demand when he offers Rod Ironsides the general managership of the Sonder Ditch gold mine.
For Rod, ambitious and hard-living but totally gripped by the life of the mine, it is the chance of a lifetime. Manfred Steyner is neurotic and ruthless, a compulsive gambler who treats people as counters in a private game and his beautiful, frustrated wife Terry as a social prop and source of cash.
