This edited collection of essays on Shakespeare includes writings on Shakespeare in his time, in our time, and in the future. It looks at why we talk so much about Shakespeare by considering the dominant views and theories on his work at the beginning of the new millennium. Essays included examine topics such as touring practices in Shakespeare's day, the history of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare in relation to his contemporaries, Shakespeare and homoeroticism and Shakespeare and the future.
Languages change and they keep changing as a result of communicative interactions and practices in the context of communities of language users. The articles in this volume showcase a range of such communities and their practices as loci of language change in the history of English. The notion of communities of practice takes its starting point in the work of Jean Lave and Etienne Wenger and refers to groups of people defined both through their membership in a community and through their shared practices.

This book explores the use of English within otherwise local-language conversations by two continental European social media communities. The analysis of these communities serves not only as a comparison of online language practices, but also as a close look at how globalization phenomena and ‘international English’ play out in the practices of everyday life in different non-English-speaking countries. The author concludes that the root of the distinctive practices in the two communities studied is the disparity between their language ideologies.
This book investigates the current EFL market in East Asia, focusing on K-12, university, and cram school English education in Japan, China, and Korea. It explores prevailing educational practices by both Asian learners and teachers of English, contrasting them with Western practices, and illuminating why Western pedagogical methods have often encountered tremendous resistance from teachers, administrators, parents, and students in the East Asian classroom context.
