Brazilian Portuguese for Spanish Speakers. Pois nao
Pois nao accomplishes two main goals. First, it teaches the equivalento of one year of college Portuguese in one semester, three times a week, to Spanish speakers who also have a solid English foundation. Secondly, this book serves as a basic reference guide to Brazilian Portuguese for the same audience. That is, it is an intensive course contrasting Portuguese and Spanish with reliance on English comprehension.

This book has two main purposes: first, to enable educators to make informed decisions and choices about selecting, implementing, and evaluating cooperative learning models with respect for the differences and diversity of goals among professionals in school communities, and second, to consider the goals of teachers' professional development in the context of organizational reforms that foster systemic school change, such as the development of learning communities.
Is meaningful communication possible between two intelligent parties who share no common language or background? In this work, a theoretical framework is proposed in which it is possible to address when and to what extent such semantic communication is possible: such problems can be rigorously addressed by explicitly focusing on the goals of the communication. Under this framework, it is possible to show that for many goals, communication without any common language or background is possible using universal protocols.
