Главная героиня двуязычная девочка из семьи иммигрантов из Китая. Соответственно по ходу сюжета телезрителям предлагается познакомиться с китайскими традициями и языком. Китайский язык имеет два основных диалекта, поэтому в данном случае необходимо уточнить, что Кай-Лан и ее дедушка используют Мандарин, на котором говорят большинство китайцев, исключая Гонконг, где вce говорят на Кантониз. И хотя даже название мультфильма переводится с китайского - "Привет, Кай-Лан" - китайский язык занимает в нем далеко не центральное место...
