Poetry is essentially spoken language; it provides meaningful practice of structure, vocabulary, sounds, stress and intonation; it is enjoyable, it is memorable. When structurally graded, it becomes a valuable reinforcement to language learning.
Evans Graded Verse 1 contains limericks, tongue-twisters, rhymes and songs as well as both humorous and serious poems by such well-known poets as Hilaire Belloc, W.H. Davies, Robert Frost, and Philip Larkin.
A five-level general English course for 14-19 year-olds, who are also preparing for the school-leaving exam. The clear structure and step-by-step approach to communication provides supported language and skills training to get students speaking confidently.

Cecilia E. Ford explores the question: what work do adverbial clauses do in conversational interaction? Her analysis of this predominating conjunction strategy in English conversation is based on the assumption that grammars reflect recurrent patterns of situated language use, and that a primary site for language is in spontaneous talk. She considers the interactional as well as the informational work of talk and shows how conversationalists use grammar to coordinate their joint language production.
