Critical Survey of Long FictionCritical Survey of Long Fiction

Gr 9 Up–Though this attractive set is well conceived and includes 678 essays on the authors most studied in high school and their works (97 new essays, 130 revised from the 2000 edition), and a wealth of information and opinion, it is not essential. Each entry provides brief biographical data and a list of principal long works; a short discussion of the subject's other literary forms; sections entitled “Achievements,” “Biography,” and “Analysis,” which provide general overviews of the author's writings; and a selection of analysis and plot summaries for specific titles.

Musician's DictionaryMusician's Dictionary

David W. Barber’s first book, A Musician’s Dictionary is a hilarious spoof, a clever collection of musical definitions from Accidentals (“wrong notes”) to Z (“the sound made by members of the audience during a performance”) and lots in between (“Piano Tuner: A person employed to come into the home, rearrange the furniture and annoy the cat.”) These witty and sometimes trenchant terms are sure to delight both the trained musician and the tone-deaf music lover alike.

Mastering the Art of French Cooking

Mastering the Art of French Cooking“Anyone can cook in the French manner anywhere,” wrote Mesdames Beck, Bertholle, and Child, “with the right instruction.” And here is the book that, for forty years, has been teaching Americans how.

The book is for both seasoned cooks and beginners who love good food and long to reproduce at home the savory delights of the classic cuisine, from the historic Gallic masterpieces to the seemingly artless perfection of a dish of spring-green peas.

The Wood Whisperer Guild - Router Based InlayThe Wood Whisperer Guild - Router Based Inlay

Inlay is a great way to adorn your woodworking projects. Even the simplest item can become incredibly compelling if it features a well-executed inlay. With the right materials and techniques, its just like painting with wood. Only “non-artistic” folks like myself can actually do it!
