Nathaniel Hawthorne (Bloom's Classic Critical Views)Nathaniel Hawthorne (Bloom's Classic Critical Views)

A key figure in the development of American literature, nineteenth-century novelist and short-story writer Nathaniel Hawthorne is perhaps best known for his novels The Scarlet Letter, The Marble Faun, and The House of the Seven Gables. Also among his major achievements are numerous stories including "My Kinsman, Major Molineux," "Young Goodman Brown," and "The Minister's Black Veil." D. H. Lawrence: A Reference CompanionD.H. Lawrence remains one of the most popular and studied authors of the 20th century. This book is a comprehensive but easy to use reference guide to Lawrence's life, works, and critical reception. The volume has been systematically structured to convey a coherent overall sense of Lawrence's achievement and critical reputation, but it is also designed to enable the reader who may be interested in only one aspect of Lawrence's career, perhaps even in only one of his novels or stories, to find relevant information quickly and easily without having to read other parts of the text.

Touch of EvilTouch of Evil

Touch of Evil is an action-packed police procedural romantic suspense enhanced by a strong ER medical thriller subplot. The cast is solid especially the beleaguered sheriff and the emergency room doctor. However, it is the investigation that owns the novel as evidence points to serial suicides in what looks like a band member's pact until the deputy dies. Although perhaps there is too much negative activity engulfing Justine that threatens to overwhelm the whodunit, Colleen Thompson provides an entertaining gripping thriller.
