Eric Ambler - Waiting for Orders

WAITING FOR ORDERS is a collection of the author's shorter works, written in 1929-1940 as Ambler, already a successful suspense novelist, waited for his call to military duty.
Included in WAITING FOR ORDERS are "The Army of Shadows," his earliest published short story; "The Intrusions of Dr. Czissar," a collection of detective stories; and "The Blood Bargain," a short story that the author abandoned and then came back to in 1970.

The Origins of the Greek Architectural OrdersThe Origins of the Greek Architectural Orders

Much of our understanding of the origins and early development of the Greek architectural order is based on the writings of ancient authors, such as Virtruvius, and those of modern interpreters. Scrambling and the Survive Principle (Linguistik Aktuell / Linguistics Today)Languages with free word orders pose daunting challenges to linguistic theory because they raise questions about the nature of grammatical strings. Ross, who coined the term Scrambling to refer to the relatively ‘free’ word orders found in Germanic languages (among others) notes that “… the problems involved in specifying exactly the subset of the strings which will be generated … are far too complicated for me to even mention here, let alone come to grips with” (1967:52). This book offers a radical re-analysis of middle field Scrambling.
