The Memory Keeper's Daughter
16

The Memory Keeper's DaughterKim Edwards’s stunning family drama evokes the spirit of Sue Miller and Alice Sebold, articulating every mother’s silent fear: what would happen if you lost your child and she grew up without you? In 1964, when a blizzard forces Dr. David Henry to deliver his own twins, he immediately recognizes that one of them has Down Syndrome and makes a split-second decision that will haunt all their lives forever. He asks his nurse to take the baby away to an institution and to keep her birth a secret. Instead, she disappears into another city to raise the child as her own. Compulsively readable and deeply moving, The Memory Keeper’s Daughter is an astonishing tale of redemptive love.

Theoretical Aspects of Memory 2nd Edition
Recent years have seen major developments in our understanding of how memory works. Theoretical Aspects of Memory gives a clear introduction by some of the world's leading experts.
The first two chapters set past theorizing about memory in a historical context and identify the major aspects of memory to be captured by any theoretical account. Later chapters go on to discuss theoretical accounts of working memory, the development of memory, implicit memory and context-dependent memory. A final section discusses the respective strengths and problems of naturalistic and laboratory research on memory.

Page-a-Minute Memory Book

Page-a-Minute Memory BookThis book is filled with a good number of memory improvement tricks and techniques that are presented in a conversational style and kept to roughly a single page in length.
In addition to showing you various techniques, the author subtly weaves in ways that improve your observation skills, helps you form creative associations, and that causes you to remember.
There are little exercises through out the book, but they are just that - samples. There's nothing boring or done by rote. As you're reading along, several pages later (which could days later), the author indirectly tests you, validating that if you even try the technique, you get high return with minimal effort. Simply practicing seems to improve your memory even more.

The study of Learning and Memory is a central topic in Neuroscience and Psychology. It is also a very good example of a field that has come into maturity on all levels - in the protein chemistry and molecular biology of the cellular events underlying learning and memory, the properties and functions of neuronal networks, the psychology and behavioural neuroscience of learning and memory. Many of the basic research findings are directly applicable in the treatment of diseases and aging phenomena, and have found their way into educational theory and praxis. Learning and Memory - A comprehensive reference.

Forensic Art Essentials: A Manual For Law Enforcement Artists
9

altNo other art is like forensic art. Other professional artists try to create something that is either fresh, beautiful, moving, virtuous, or inspiring. Simply put, throughout history art needed to be desirable to survive. Forensic art is the only artistic profession where the image can be poorly done, sketchy, unfinished, and otherwise flawed yet become perfect if it generates a successful outcome.
No matter how poorly a sketch from a witness comes out, if it helps identify the perpetrator depicted, it becomes a perfect work. The highest degree of difficulty in forensic art is the elusive task of pulling a face from a witness’s memory. However, this is the artistic duty most frequently needed by investigators of crimes against persons. In robberies, aggravated assaults, and homicides where someone lives through the scene who saw the face of the perpetrator, a sketch yielding a vision of the attacker’s face from the witness’s memory can enhance investigative efforts.
