Vocabulary in ContextVocabulary in Context

This book follows basically the same linguistic and pedagogical principles that were followed in earlier editions of the Lessons in Vocabulary of the Intensive Course in English. All of the material has been thoroughly tested in the classroom. The primary device for presenting vocabulary material in these lessons is the dialogue. It not only provides flexibility in combining structures and lexical items to form situations but also is a very effective device for stimulating conversation. Cognitive Neuroscience, 3 edition (2010)Cognitive Neuroscience, 3 edition (2010)

This text balances experimental and clinical perspectives with a survey of a variety of mental functions. In a conversational style, the authors provide clear, accessible explanations of difficult concepts, making use of analogies and case studies to illustrate them. A consistent structure throughout each chapter defines a mental function and the role of each part or parts of the brain in that function, followed by a discussion of what neuropsychological syndromes say about the cognitive and neural organization of the mental function.

Grade 9 Up–While this work is by no means comprehensive, it will more than meet students' research needs. The clearly written entries are organized alphabetically. Each one includes a text box with an overview of the combatants, casualties, treaties, principal theaters, outcome, and the major issues and objectives, followed by an overview of the battle or war that places it in historical context and a short list of further reading. The date of the earliest conflict included is the Fall of Jericho c. 8000 B.C.E., followed by Sargon's Conquests of Sumer in 2325 B.C.E.; entries continue through the year 2003 with the ongoing U.S.-Iraq War and the U.S. War on Terrorism.
