Death on the Cape and Other Stories
Peopled by a colourful cast of characters and featuring bizarre twists and turns, this is a collection of eight Mary Higgins Clark stories of psychological suspense. They include her first published work, and a story written especially for the collection.
A bestseller when it was first published in 1883, this first volume of historian John Bach McMaster's magnum opus is a lively history of the United States that is as entertaining as it is informative. Eventually stretching to eight volumes, McMaster's epic was original in its emphasis on social and economic conditions as deciding factors in shaping a nation's culture: in addition to the words and actions of great men and the outcomes of significant skirmishes and battles, McMaster indulges his obsession with fascinating trivia, from which fruits and vegetables were to be found in the markets of 18th-century Boston to the cost of books in Pennsylvania before the Revolution.

On the remote Hebridean island of Runa, a grisly discovery awaits the arrival of forensic anthropologist Dr. David Hunter. A body - almost totally incinerated but for the feet and a single hand - has been found. The local police are quick to record an accidental death but Hunter's instincts say otherwise: he's convinced it's murder. In fact Runa is far from the peaceful community it first appears - and a burned corpse is only one of its dark secrets.
Then an Atlantic storm descends, severing all power and contact with the mainland. And as the storm rages, the killing begins in earnest...
