On Case Grammar: Prolegomena to a Theory of Grammatical Relations

On Case Grammar: Prolegomena to a Theory of Grammatical RelationsStructural analogy is the assumption that structural differences between the levels and planes (levels with different alphabets) of linguistic representation are severely constrained: within the limits imposed by the character of inter-level relationships and by differences in alphabet, we expect the same properties to recur on different levels and planes. The implementation of the case grammar hypothesis (that semantic roles are syntactically basic) is explored here in terms of this assumption; and the hypothesis is shown to interact with other constraints imposed by the structural analogy assumption to provide a restrictive theory of syntactic structure and the lexicon-syntax interface.

The Psychology of the Foreign Exchange MarketThe Psychology of the Foreign Exchange Market

This book demystifies the foreign exchange market by focusing on the people who comprise it.  Drawing on the expertise of the very professionals whose decisions help shape the market, Thomas Oberlechner describes the highly interdependent relationship between financial decision makers and news providers, showing that the assumption that the foreign exchange market is purely economic and rational has to be replaced by a more complex market psychology.

The Key: A True EncounterThe Key: A True Encounter

From the bestselling author of Communion comes the mysterious true story of how an unknown visitor barged into Streiber's hotel room late one night--and imparted extraordinary lessons in personal development and man's fate that challenge us to rethink every assumption about the meaning of life.   At two-thirty in the morning of June 6, 1998, Whitley Streiber was awakened by somebody knocking on his hotel room door. A man came in, and everything he said was life-altering.

Marxism and the History of ArtMarxism and the History of Art

This anthology is conceived as an introduction to recent thinking about the past of Marxist art history. It is not offered in the spirit of nostalgia – a kind of dusting off of relics – but as a prompt to critique and renewal.
My assumption is that much of the history the contributors tell is little known in its specifi cs, and that its achievements are often misconstrued and undervalued.

Nietzsche's Anti-DarwinismNietzsche's Anti-Darwinism

Friedrich Nietzsche's complex connection to Charles Darwin has been much explored, and both scholarly and popular opinions have tended to assume a convergence in their thinking. In this study, Dirk Johnson challenges that assumption and takes seriously Nietzsche's own explicitly stated "anti-Darwinism.
