The Curse of the Kings – Victoria Holtby – Victoria Holt
Absolute top-notch Holt this one. Clearly inspired by The Curse of Tutankhamun (she even names a patch of land Carter’s Meadow, presumably after Howard Carter), Egypt is the perfect setting for a Holt mystery romance. The first half of the book though is set back in England, with Our Heroine, Judith, becoming obsessed with her glamorous archaeologist neighbour, Sir Tybalt Travers. Judith though is having to earn a crust working as a downtrodden companion to the horrible Lady Bodrean, and doesn’t think she has a hope of attracting Tybalt’s attentions. Of course she does, they get married, and she joins him on an archaeological dig ..
A follow-up to Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic series.
As in all previous Shopaholic books, Rebecca is loud and proud about her luxury-brand obsession and equally at ease being a flighty, sometimes annoying lead, though her well-meaning secret birthday mission scores her much-needed points in the sympathy department. Series fans know what to expect and will get it by the Birkin-load.

By writing more in the style of a magazine than a stodgy textbook and explaining even complex ideas in an intuitive, concise way, he'll leave few students bored or bewildered. A second innovation is the book's structure and emphasis, which reflects today's economic realities and economists' understanding. Most refreshing, though, is the book's even-handedness. Mr Mankiw seems to revel in setting out how different schools of thought have contributed to economists' current state of knowledge.
