In Search of Scotland is the companion book to the lively and challenging BBC Scotland television series. Edited by Gordon Menzies, the Producer of the television series, this book tells the story of ten thousand years of Scotland's history. History is where we come from, history is who we are. From the Stone Age to the present, the book charts the impact of Celts, Picts, Romans, Irish, Vikings and English, of battles, wars and empire. The great and the good figure prominently, of course, but the story of Scotland is also about ordinary people, who lived and loved, worked and died, mostly leaving no record at all.
Euclid's birthplace and dates are not known, however his famous book, The Elements, is dated about 300 BC. There is little hard information about Euclid's life. He is thought to have studied in Athens at the school established by Plato, and therefore would have learnt his geometry from the students of Plato.
Euclid probably supported himself teaching geometry. He eventually moved to Alexandria where the greatest library in the ancient world was also the most important site of learning at the time. It is here that Euclid composed The Elements.
