This work is a contextual study of a collection of English colour terms. Here contextual is used loosely in the sense that the colour terms are not analysed in isolation but in conjunction with other linguistic units. The overall aim of the study is to describe and analyse a number of aspects of the semantics of English colour terms within the framework of cognitive linguistics. The material on which this work is based is an extensive language corpus – the Bank of English.
