Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Helbling - LEVEL 2
It is a hot afternoon and Alice is bored. She follows a White Rabbit down a rabbit hole and arrives in a strange place called Wonderland. Here nothing is as it seems: animals can talk, cakes and drinks can make you bigger and smaller and the Queen of Hearts can cut off your head. Can Alice find her way home again?
On a gloomy December day during the American Revolution, two strange vessels were seen hovering off the east coast of England, in that expanse of water known at the time as the German Ocean. One, a small black schooner, moved slowly amid the sand bars and sunken rocks with which the immediate coast abounded. The second was a gallant ship of the frigate class, and floated majestically in the tide drawing closer to the smaller vessel. These were an American frigate and its consort, the "Ariel" on a secret mission among the dangerous shoals and reefs of the English coast.
Young children are naturally talkative and eager to build on their knowledge of words and their meanings. These 'Talk-Together' books are designed to make early learning as enjoyable as possible. Bold, inviting illustrations are labeled in large type for children who are beginning to recognize letter shapes. The questions and statements in smaller type are helpful prompts for grown-ups to encourage children to explore the pictures further.
Standards for the Assessment of Reading and Writing
With this updated document, NCTE and IRA reaffirm their position that the primary purpose of assessment must be to improve teaching and learning for all students. Eleven core standards are presented and explained, and a helpful glossary makes this document suitable not only for educators but for parents, policymakers, school board members, and other stakeholders. Case studies of large-scale national tests and smaller scale classroom assessments (particularly in the context of RTI, or Response to Intervention) are used to highlight how assessments in use today do or do not meet the standards.
