Party Going is a 1939 novel by British writer Henry Green (real name Henry Vincent Yorke). It tells the story of a group of wealthy people travelling by train to a house party. Due to fog, however, the train is much delayed and the group takes rooms in the adjacent large railway hotel. All the action of the story takes place in the hotel.
In The Party and Other Stories Chekhov shows his sympathy and understanding for human nature under strain and in great life- difficulty. The opening story " The Party" focuses on a character in late - states of pregnancy who observes by mistake her philandering husband's talk with a young attractive girl. The long story " My Life" has many elements of Chekhov's own youth in it, including the cruel beatings administered by the father. In "The Woman's Kingdom" a former worker and now factory owner thinks of escaping her isolation through marrying one of the workers, only to understand how socially this has become impossible.
Precious Ramotswe is haunted by a dream in which she is driving her dear old white van. Grace Makutsi dreams that her 97 percent on the Botswana Secretarial College exam was a mistake. When Mma Ramotswe discovers that her van is actually still in use (and, of course, sets out to retrieve it), Mma Makutsi wonders whether her dream will turn out to be prophetic as well.
