The Little Prince [pdf + audio]
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry first published The Little Prince in 1943, only a year before his Lockheed P-38 vanished over the Mediterranean during a reconnaissance mission. More than a half century later, this fable of love and loneliness has lost none of its power. The narrator is a downed pilot in the Sahara Desert, frantically trying to repair his wrecked plane. His efforts are interrupted one day by the apparition of a little, well, prince, who asks him to draw a sheep. "In the face of an overpowering mystery, you don't dare disobey," the narrator recalls.

Lois McMaster Bujold - The Borders of Infinity

Lois McMaster Bujold - The Borders of InfinityOne more audiobook (and book) of Miles Vorkosigan's adventures. In this novell Miles infiltrates a prison camp at Dagoola IV, where he plots from within to free the prisoners. This is, in many ways, the archetype of a Miles story. He starts in a down and out situation (this one being a prison camp, far worse than most) and gets people to rally around him through the sheer force of personality, hope, and imagination. That, plus a fair bit of luck and good connections, lets him turn the situation on its head and make everything work out. The story ended up working far better than it was expected after the brutal beginning and shows a lot about Miles's loyalty to the people under his command.

Lois McMaster Bujold - Mirror DanceMiles Vorkosigan faces more than his share of troubles as the protagonist in Mirror Dance. Not only is he deformed and undersized but he has a cloned brother who gets into a jam in the free enterprise plague spot known as Jackson's Whole. Miles tries to help his brother but ends up injured, placed on cryogenic suspension and then lost in intergalactic limbo. And that's just in the first 100 pages. The following 300 pages add a wealth more to this fantastic tale that's both humorous and finely written.

Mirror Dance won the 1995 Hugo Award for Science Fiction.
