Even if you start out with a brain that's operating perfectly well, by the time you're halfway through these 36 whodunit puzzles you'll be lucky if you can remember your name! You start by getting caught up in an argument among some musicians, and try to find out who started it; then the dispute turns more serious, when one of the choir members gets murdered. Later, a friendly game of cards features a bit of cheating that leads to a killing; and then a backstage whistling incident causes still another death.
"A Friendly Mathematics Competition" tells the story of the Indiana College Mathematics Competition (ICMC) by presenting the problems, solutions, and results of the first 35 years of the ICMC. The ICMC was organized in reaction to the Putnam Exam - its problems were to be more representative of the undergraduate curriculum, and students could work on them in teams. Originally participation was originally restricted to the small, private colleges and universities of the state, but was later opened up to students from all of the schools in Indiana. The competition was quickly nicknamed the "Friendly" Competition because of its focus on solving mathematical problems, which brought faculty and students together, rather than on the competitive nature of winning. Organized by year, the problems and solutions in this volume present an excellent archive of information about what has been expected of an undergraduate mathematics major over the past 35 years. With more than 245 problems and solutions, the book is also a must buy for faculty and students interested in problem-solving.

Grammar - A Friendly Approach (Open up Study skills)
This is a grammar book with a difference. It brings grammar to life by giving examples of grammatical problems in the contexts where they arise by including a soap opera. As the characters’ grammar improves, so will yours. It blends a story about three students – Barbara, Kim and Abel - with advice on specific areas of grammar. The characters’ story builds throughout the book, but each chapter can be read separately if readers want to focus on specific grammatical issues. There are exercises to encourage the reader to relate the issues to their own practice and experiences, as well as an extensive glossary which defines the terms that are used throughout the book. Grammar: A Friendly Approach is based around issues at university but students from schools and colleges will also love this irreverent look at the rules of grammar: Their teachers and tutors will also see rapid and noticeable improvements in students’ written work.
