Physics is a complex, even daunting topic, but it is also deeply satisfying even thrilling. And liberated from its mathematical underpinnings, physics suddenly becomes accessible to anyone with the curiosity and imagination to explore its beauty. Science without math? It's not that unusual. For example, we can understand the concept of gravity without solving a single equation.
"Absolutely Small" presents (and demystifies) the world of quantum science like no book before.
My most favorite part is the personal accounts, but what takes the cake is the therapeutic index that gives a combination of juices to treat and supplement diseases ranging from acne to warts. The book is written in textbook style (although not boring at all), and by an editorial board. There are charts representing the general amount of mineral, vitamins, and more in the most common foods and herbs. There is also a section that list various foods along with there uses and values.
This book is clearly the first in a series. The overall structure has a theme of humans facing extermination by an overwhelmingly numerous alien enemy. Clear similarities to Ringo's Posleen series. It could seem like Ringo is recycling too much of that series. There, however, we at least get some glimpses into the enemy's mindset, no matter how superficial. Here, there is absolutely no such analog. The enemy is depicted as robots, with no insight into even the CPU of a master controller. In terms of character definition, this is even more awkward than David Weber's In Death Ground...
