Dear friends! Welcome back to Englishtips! Did you miss us? We surely missed you all! We are glad to be able to re-launch after a 3-day downtime. Those of you following our updates on our Twitter already know that we had to switch off our servers until we could settle some legal issues. Luckily, the downtime is over and we’re back online - with a lot of new ideas and enthusiasm! Thank you for being with us!
1. We have added a ‘Rules and Terms of Use’ page in both English and Russian – please take a look and make sure you agree to them. 2. The ‘Download Agreement’ got renamed to ‘Terms of Use’ – all users must agree to them if they want to use the website.It is available in every publication. 3. Following several copyright holders’ requests, we have added a way for them to be able to provide a link to their online store – for those of you who would like to by the hard copies of the materials they have found through our website. This new button ‘Purchase the Hard Copy’ can now be seen in every publication. At the moment it is not linked to anything yet, since we do not know the URLs for their online stores, but we’ll be gradually adding links there. Please hover your cursor over the button to see more information. 4. There are two more new links – for copyright holders, both leading the the ‘Rules and Terms of Use’ pages. One in the left sidebar, one – in the footer. 5. Some other minor elements of the website (RSS tab, etc) that are missing now will be soon added back to their places.

Using Englishtips (or, actually, getting notified when something you like has been added) just got more convenient!
Most of you already know what RSS is, and many of you are using it to get latest updates from websites without actually visiting them. We have RSS, too, but until today it was just one channel - all Englishtips submissions. We have now added a section in the tabbed menu above, where you can choose the specific CATEGORY RSS you want to receive updates from - for example, onlyGrammar', or only 'For kids'.

It's meant as a place for Englishtips users to get to a greater degree of interacting with each other - by actually helping! This is a place where you can ask questions. And get answers - from our community, from the real people living in all parts of the world. You, yourself, can also be a part of it. SEE IT FOR YOURSELF NOW AT WWW.ENGLISHTIPS.ORG/ANSWERS! 1) Use one of our 'official' languages (English, Polish, Russian), 2) Choose the category for your question carefully, 3) If you think that someone's answer is in any way abusive, you can report it to be deleted, there's a special button for it. If you think that someone's answer is better than others, we encourage you to vote for it by pressing 'VOTE AS BEST' button, so that it goes up in the list of answers. 4) There is a points system (we're still on it, so don't get scared by the weird amount of points you've got just yet ): asking a question earns you 1 point, answering - 5 points, voting on a best answer - 1 point, if someone votes your answer as best, this will earn you 1 point, too. We'll be using these points later in the karma system, that will affect your overall Englishtips presence, so having a lot of them is a good thing :) You can check the points you have in your profile. You can also see all your questions and answers there. 5) Once you have submitted a question or an answer, you cannot edit or delete it, so think carefully about the way you put it. 6) Each question is limited to 110 characters only, so keep'em short and to the point! If you need, you can explain your question in more detail in the 'Add detail' optional window (1000 more characters). 7)You can also bookmark the questions you like to get back to them later.
At the moment we have got over a dozen categories - obviously not all of them are needed there. Thus, each week I'll be deleting one or more categories that have not generated many questions and answers.
Well, here we go. I need your opinion on whether we need the following features at Englishtips: BLOGS (every user gets a blog hosted at Englishtips where s/he can blog ) Dangers: Can become a mess or tricky in the long run, as users may want to start sharing links at their own blogs instead of ET :) SOCIAL NETWORK (registered users can create/join groups, become friends with each other, comment in each other's profiles, etc etc) Sounds very interesting for me, as this can help us build even stronger communities grouped by common interest. Please tell us what you think(POLL INSIDE!) COMMENTS IN BOTH RUSSIAN AND ENGLISH ARE WELCOME!
