Behind the News - ABC Australia (Episode 3, 2020)

With the novel coronavirus still hitting headlines, there’s been a lot of talk about the World Health Organisation. With the recent wild weather on the East Coast, the Bureau of Meteorology is warning that it could cause coastal erosion. We look at what coastal erosion is, how it works and what’s being done to protect people who live on the coast. Some new research has suggested homework may not be as useful as once thought. We take a look at the homework debate.  Next week marks the 90th anniversary of the discovery of Pluto so we find out more about the dwarf planet. To mark Mother Language Day, our Rookie Reporter Aarush tells us about his family’s mother language, Gujarati and why speaking it is important to him.

Behind the News is a high-energy, fun way for upper primary and secondary students to learn about current issues and events in their world. And, if you want to improve your Australian accent, listening to this show can be really helpful. The video, English subtitle, and PDF package have all been included.
