A Short History of Ireland

History is a contentious subject in this part of the world – so the writer chosen was Dr. Jonathan Bardon of Queen’s University in Belfast. Not only is Dr Bardon an eminent and respected historian, he was also a founding member of the Community Relations Council and was awarded an OBE in 2002 for services to community life.
Dr Bardon’s scripts are impartial, authoritative and entertaining in their descriptions of our legendary kings, the arrival of Christianity, the Viking era, Brian Boru, the Norman invasion, the Gaelic resurgence, the plantation, the Protestant ascendancy, the famine and the creation of the Free State.
