SUN The Sun is the closest star to Earth. It provides heat and light which makes life on Earth possible. Sun shows students what this center of our solar system is all about - how big it is, what it’s made of, how old it is and how long we believe it will continue to burn. Students will examine the individual layers of the Sun and learn about solar activity, including sunspots, solar flares and prominences. They’ll also find out how scientists have studied the Sun and even make their own pinhole viewer to measure the distance to the Sun in a fun, hands-on activity. This program is based on the concepts outlined in the National Science Education Standards for Earth Science: Structure of the Earth System, Earth’s History and Earth in the solar system
