The Glenoce World History Reading Essentials and Note-Taking Guide incorporates interactive reading strategies with core content from the “Glencoe World History 2008” textbook written at a lower level than the textbook to help struggling readers and ELL (English Language Learner) students. Some texts will also be useful for ESL/EFL reading comprehension exercises on social studies topics. This Reading Essentials and Note-Taking Guide is designed to help students use recognized reading strategies to improve their reading-for-information skills. For each section of the student textbook, the student is alerted to key content. Then, students are asked to draw from prior knowledge, organize their thoughts with a graphic organizer, and follow a process to read and understand the text. The Reading Essentials and Note-Taking Guide was prepared to help students get more from their textbook by reading with a purpose.
