Africa South of the Sahara (Modern World Cultures)

From School Library Journal:
These accessible titles are generously illustrated with colorful photos, maps, and clear charts, graphs, and other statistical data. They are not broken down to provide extensive information on individual nations, but rather discuss the regions as a whole. Oppong provides a detailed view of African geography, culture, economic standing, and political history. The book concludes with a lengthy time line and a further-reading list that is heavy on other titles by the publisher. The research is well done, and information and statistics are up to date. The time line begins in 1,700,000 B.C. with the appearance of Java man and ends with the 2004 tsunami. Useful additions for research and general interest.
